How to Keep Your Cool During Online School
Students are now sitting in front of their computer at home for many hours to avoid social contact. This is not only because UNIS has switched to online school, but also because almost all outside-of-school activities have been canceled or moved online. The school has already cut down the classes in our schedule, which is a step forward, but we’re still at home almost the whole day, of which a large portion is spent sitting in front of electronics. When asking Tut House students what they do to stay happy and healthy during online school and self-quarantine in general, there was a wide variety of answers.
If you can, it’s a very good idea to go outside, allowing you to get some fresh air and move around a little. You could go on a run, or go on a walk. And if possible, you could play some sports with your family, but since many playgrounds are closed, this may be hard. You just have to remember to avoid crowded places and keep your distance from others. We might not be allowed to go outside for much longer, so take advantage of it while you still can. If you can’t go outside, you can still blow off some steam inside by staying active. We already have mandatory workouts for our P.E class, which are a great way of staying healthy, but there are some other things that you can do to achieve this. These include dance, stretching, meditation, or anything else that helps us to stay active.
Now that you are inside with your family for such a long time, there are many fun things you can do with them. You can play games, cook something together, and so much more. Since you can’t meet up with your friend, you can always FaceTime them and talk in that way. You can also call or text family and friends from other countries since you have some more time now.
Any form of social interaction is good and important to keep you happy and healthy during online school. If you have a pet, now is the perfect time to spend time with it, since you’re home all day.
Now is also a good time to do things you normally might not have that much time for. One of these things is reading books. If you’re unsure about what to read, there is a high chance that your English teachers gave you some book recommendations that you might want to take a look at. You can also listen to music or create music. You could ask your friends or family what music they like to listen to and give it a try. Another idea is playing an instrument that you already know, or try a new one. There are many fun things that you can do relating to art. You could draw, paint with acrylics and watercolor, make a collage, make and sketch a still life, or create a sculpture. You could learn something new about topics that you are interested in, or indulge in any other hobbies.
It doesn’t really matter what you do, as long as you take a break from electronics and do something else for a bit. Anything that accomplishes that is a great way to stay happy and healthy during online school and self-quarantine in general. Do something that you love and that you might not have as much time for normally!
